The Signature of All Things

2026年10月24日，展览《物质的签名》于北京798艺术区又生空间CYCLE SPACE开幕。展览由冯兮担任策展人，邀请12位艺术家——郭静、黄可一、黄立言、黄朔菲、刘讴睿、吕岩、孟后均、彭斯、王永学、闫占城、杨勋、赵一浅，共同讨论绘画中物质性的边界与可能性，以及如何将物本身视为自我的镜像。“物质可以承载精神的属性”意味着精神来自外部——来自人、来自历史、来自个人与集体的记忆；“物质本身就拥有精神性”是认定精神内在于物质自身。雅各布·波墨的旧世界观阐释的是后者，而展览经过去神学化的认知，则倾向于前者。“物质的签名”将视角停留在物质与人的关系，以及它们带来的力量与想象，而非凭空营造出的“精神性”的语境。“物质的签名”，就是寻找生命向外显现的印记，而非在描述“万物有灵”的想象。 The exhibition“The Signature of All Things”opened at CYCLE SPACE, 798 Art Zone, Beijing on October 24, 2026. Curated by Feng Xi, the show brings together 12 artists: Guo Jing, Huang Keyi, Huang Liyan, Huang Shuofei, Liu Ourui, Lü Yan, Meng Houjun, Peng Si, Wang Yongxue, Yan Zhancheng, Yang Xun and Zhao Yiqian. They jointly explore the boundaries and possibilities of materiality in painting, and how matter itself can be regarded as a mirror of the self.The proposition that “matter can carry spiritual attributes” suggests that spirit originates externally — from human beings, from history, and from personal and collective memory. By contrast, the idea that “matter inherently possesses spirituality” holds that spirit is immanent within matter itself. Jacob Böhme’s old worldview expounds the latter, while the exhibition, stripped of theological interpretations, leans toward the former. The Signature of All Things focuses on the relationship between matter and humans, alongside the power and imagination they generate, rather than constructing a fabricated context of “spirituality”. The “signature of all things” seeks imprints through which life manifests outwardly, instead of depicting the fantasy of “animism”.
